Windows 10
I installed Windows 10 Enterprise on a new SSD so I could fall back to my original state if I wanted to.
The only problem I ran into was related to my use of 3 monitors. A GeForce 750 Ti powers MON1 where I play ESO, but a GeForce 430 powers MON2 and MON3 for more workspace.
The 430 driver didn't play well with Windows 10.
A quick Google search found someone else with the same problem, which was resolved by rolling back to the 9.18.13.4788 driver from 3/13/2015.
That worked for me too, so I thought I'd log it here in a new Windows 10 thread.
Anyone else run into trouble or have advice for their fellow guildies on Windows 10?
I have heard that alot of ppl are having driver problems with Win 10.
That's because it is secretly beta. The MS philosophy is: "customer test all products for 6 months". (This is a customer tested philosophy, btw.) This test is about to begin; and, for the price they ask, I'm willing to help. Before MS, a single seat on a shared computer could run $100K(US). Of course, I prefer a disk and clean install. We should all feedback to HW mfgs during this period, as we do on any beta, because we are beta testing the global computing environment (with mobile integration this time, I believe). I'm so pompous I bore myself.
Signature goes here.
It took me a few days here but I finally got it installed. I had to wind up doing the upgrade then turning around and doing a nuke and pave. If I had done the nuke and pave first it wouldn't have recognized my eligibility for the free upgrade. So now I have a fresh install of a fully activated Windows 10.
I did however run into an issue with my sound card. I have a sound blaster and it installed the driver and the software that supports my card, but for some reason once all that was installed it quit working, so I had to uninstall all the software and remove the device. Once I rebooted everything worked just fine, for now that is.
my email address is too far down the rotation yet... but I have a nice ssd I've kept a live copy of Win8 on just for the purpose.... (well, it was live the day I installed it - when it first came out... Gawds what a sucky day that was!)
You know.. it's sad. At least in my opinion. Everyone blames MS and/or Windows when a driver doesn't work or their hardware.. really? I think it's rather remarkable that the majority of all the different hard drives, monitors, video cards, sound devices, microphones, web cams, input devices (lumping them al together because I'm getting tired of typing), printers and so on and so on.. are working flawlessly with Windows 10. In reality, who's at fault if a driver doesn't work with an OS? The manufacturer!! They have had plenty of time to test there products with Windows 10.. Plenty. I'm really pissed at a couple of companies that I have done business with who STILL do not have a Win 10 compatible update for their software product.. one being Lastpass! Now, I don't expect it to work with Edge.. as a matter of fact, nothing will by design! But, it should be able to work with the new version of IE if I so desired. But it doesn't and the last thing they told me is they haven't finished the new version yet.
But, I have not had one single issue otherwise with hardware and I've been running TRUE beta versions of 10 since January/February in the Fast ring. I am sorry that anyone has a problem with anything.. no one should.. but it's now always MS's fault. :)
Lastpass too? RoboForm also was an issue....but nothing else so far. forgot if I got Roboform to work on laptop...this week has been hectic!
Yeah.. pissed me off. It works with Chrome, so that's my saving grace. But it just irritates me to no end that a company doesn't stay up on the OS changes or Browser changes in this case with the new IE
I am still waiting on my PC Windows 10 app to tell me I am ready to download....Keeps fingers crossed that all goes well:)
You can go to Microsoft.com and speed it up....
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Go to bottom of page and select Download Tool Now, 64-bit, then select Upgrade this PC
I got the notification this morning that my PC was ready to upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 10. Everything went great until I signed into my desktop--then all I got was a flashing screen. Was on the phone with Microsoft Tech support for an hr and they escalated me to a more experienced person--but after being on hold for almost 2 hrs I just reverted to my old Windows 8. After a quick search of the internet I found over 180 people on one forum with the same problem and numerous other complaints of the same issue. None of the mentioned solutions fixed my problem.
Guess I will wait a bit before I take the plunge again.
Update....just before I hung up the phone it rang and the Tech Support guy answered. Basically, he told me it would be a good idea to wait a week or two before I update as they have many issues/bugs to figure out--the flashing desktop being one of them. So--looks like I will be waiting for sure:)
Hey Baranon, there is a Lastpass windows app in the Microsoft store. It works very similarly to the Lastpass app on smartphones. It is what I use for my windows machine. It is not quite as handy as having it right in the browser but it works for now until it can be used as a plugin in the Edge browser.
